Dental Insurance
Dental insurance covers some or all of the costs of regular dental care and accidental dental damage. (Try to say that five times fast – unless it makes your teeth hurt.) Many people go to the dentist at least once every six months for a regular dental cleaning and checkup appointment. There are all kinds of specialized dental procedures for children and adolescents. Make sure that you check with your current insurance provider to see which dental procedures it covers and what the costs are for different procedures.
A dental plan can be individual, but many dental plans come in the form of a group insurance policy. Families and businesses are the most common examples of groups with collective dental plans. If you are currently employed, ask your employer if you can be covered under the company dental plan (if there is one). Without a company plan, you may have to pay more out of pocket for dental services. However, there are many reputable companies that offer great dental coverage for people who are employed as well for the jobless.
Sadly, many people procrastinate by putting off dental coverage until it’s too late. Perhaps they think it’s not as important to have as other types of insurance, like medical insurance or car insurance. Or maybe they think they’re too busy to head to the dentist every few months.
The younger and healthier your teeth are, the cheaper it generally is to get dental coverage for them. But no matter how good your teeth are, you should consider getting good dental coverage. You never know when you might need a filling, a cleaning or even a root canal (ouch!). Even more painful than a long dental procedure is the huge bill you’ll get afterwards if you don’t have adequate insurance.
